Usually, I am not good at making surprises and it is more about managing/or not to keep a secret than about the lack of ideas. The thing is I get so very excited every time I book a flight or get some unexpected gift, I literally jump for joy and want to share the news with everyone. Nevertheless, I already happened to take my boyfriend for a New Year’s surprise journey to Toledo when I was living in Madrid or to pay a visit to my parents in Poland without letting them know I was coming. I love the reaction it sparks off on their faces and that last October I wished to do quite the same for my boyfriend’s birthday. I put in a great deal of effort and eventually managed to keep it under my hat till our arrival at Charles de Gaulle Airport. He had no idea we were traveling to Italy again.
Lake Como is this kind of place everyone has already been to or at least seen in pictures and you won’t reinvent a wheel here. However, travelling there in the off season turned out to be a different experience. We were truly amazed at the beauty of the region, the autumnal scenery was unique and even the changing weather did not bother us much.
Our favorite places? Villa Monastero in Varenna (lesser known) and obviously the famous Villa di Balbianello, we were lucky enough to be almost the only visitors at that time of the year and that was another pleasant surprise.
